This is MALASIMBO's 3rd year and there is no doubt in our minds that it just keeps getting better and better! In the last couple of weeks the TWI team has been sitting down and talking to the event organizers and saying we're "excited" would definitely be an understatement.
ADVENTURE
It is DEFINITELY more fun in the Philippines with Malasimbo. This music and arts festival is set in Puerto Galera, Mindoro, a popular tourist spot, and getaway for the locals all over the archipelago. To get there from the city, it's a 1 hour and 30 minutes bus ride to the Batangas Pier then a 40 minute ride on one of the boats or a large bangka (a filipino motorized boat). The Malasimbo experiences starts way before you even get to the island! AND for festival-goers who want THE 100% Malasimbo experience, people have the option of camping on the Malasimbo grounds! ENVIRONMENT
The main events will be taking place at the Malasimbo Amphitheater, a grass-terraced amphitheater set to the back drop of the b-e-a-utiful Mt. Malasimbo (check out the photos! they look unreal!). This will not be your ordinary outdoor-concert experience. Outdoor concert? Take that image you have in your head but add the wonderful green grass under your feet, large beautiful palm trees over your head and in the sky you've got a clear view of the constellations and a stones throw away you've got the crashing waves on the vast Galera beach. Once you've got that picture in your head maybe you'll understand what this festival is going to be like. But don't just take our word for it! KEEP READING!
DAY & NIGHT
Malasimbo is jam-packed with events and attractions during the day and in the evening. While the sun is up, festival goers get the opportunity to witness the local talents of the Mangyan and T'boli tribes. Music, dance, poetry, handicrafts are only a few things on the menu. The members of the South Cotabato tribes bring their colorful heritage to the world's stage with this unique opportunity! After the sun sets, the greenfields of the mountain sides turn into a carnival of rhythm and percussion as the main acts take the stage. The performers include an extremely wide range of expressions, from Hip-hop to Electronic to Jazz. and this year's headliners?! Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-er and Grammy Nominee JIMMY CLIFF and Grammy Winner JOSS STONE! That's right. There are now too many reasons for you to come to this festival.
