Repertory Philippines brings you THE PRODUCERS

"THE PRODUCERS,” THE FUNNIEST MUSICAL IN THE UNIVERSE,
FINALLY OPENS ON NOV. 15

In celebration of its 46th year, Repertory Philippines proudly announces its last production for its 76th theater season with THE PRODUCERS, the biggest hit in Broadway history.

Set to open on November 15  at 8 p.m. at Onstage, Greenbelt 1, Makati, THE PRODUCERS, based on the 1968 Mel Brooks movie of the same name, was written by Brooks and Thomas Meehan, with songs arranged by Glen Kelly and Doug Besterman.

With an unprecedented, record-breaking 12 Tony Awards, the story of THE PRODUCERS concerns two theatrical producers, Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom, who hatch a scam to stage the worst Broadway musical they can find, so that they can get rich from investors and then pocket the money when the show flops. After finding the script “Springtime for Hitler” by crazed Nazi playwright Franz Liebkind, they bring on board Roger DeBris, Carmen Ghia as well as their sexpot secretary, Ulla. Their scheme falls apart, however, when “Springtime for Hitler” becomes a smash hit instead.

The humor of the show draws on ridiculous accents, homosexual stereotypes, and Nazis, along with many show business in-jokes. It is a satirical comedy that can be appreciated by both insiders and outsiders of the theatre industry.
The original Broadway production, starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, opened at the St. James Theatre on April 19, 2001 and ran for 2,502 performances. It spawned a successful London production running for just over two years, US national tours, many productions worldwide, and a 2005 film version.

THE CAST

Directed by Jaime del Mundo, the Manila premier of THE PRODUCERS features top caliber actors CARLO OROSA and ROBIE ZIALCITA alternating as Max Bialystock, the beleaguered producer facing bankruptcy, who woos little old ladies into backing his shows.

Actor-director JOEL TRINIDAD plays Franz Liebkind, a former Nazi whose play is chosen by Max and Leo as a definite flop.

Stage and screen veteran NOEL TRINIDAD (Joel’s father) takes on the role of Roger De Bris, the flamboyant  homosexual cross-dresser chosen to direct the show. He will be alternating with role of Roger with one of the icons of Philippine musical theater AUDIE GEMORA.

Student Ambassador Weekend

#TicketWorld Presents our #twiSTAs!!!

This year, TicketWorld has gone full force with its Student Ambassador Program! A fleet of energetic university students has joined the TicketWorld mission of promoting the arts and lives entertainment! Our dedicated team of Student Ambassadors extends TicketWorld’s already wide reach, to campuses and students all over the nation.

This past weekend, the TicketWorld team had it's first big, STUDENT AMBASSADOR WEEKEND.

Our team was busy with our lovely Twistas (TWI + Student Ambassadors ;) ) over Friday and Saturday.

Our TWIStas were in for some lovely surprises and some great performances! :)

DAY 1

Some of our Twistas and the TWI Main Office
Last Friday, we all got together at the TicketWorld main office, where many of them met each other for the first time! While they were here, we watched the classic 80's movie DIRTY DANCING staring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey!

It was after the movie that we broke the good news to them. The TicketWorld Student Ambassadors will be watching DIRTY DANCING: The Classic Story On Stage this coming July! AND they will be in our "Tweet Seats" on Opening Night! :) Needless to say, our Twistas were jumping out of their seats with the news. :)

To celebrate the wonderful news, we all shared more exciting stories and laughs over dinner at Shakeys (cue Let's all go to Shakeys, commercial music, accompanied by walking joyfully across the street!:)

The TWI Marketing Team with our lovely Twistas!

DAY 2

Day 2 was jam packed with wonderful performances, full tummies and tons of laughs (ala Hallmark Card)!

In the Main Lobby of the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium

We all met up at RCBC Plaza - Carlos Romulo Auditorium lobby to gear up for Viva-Atlantis' THE FULL MONTY! After a few photo ops in the lobby, we entered the house to wait for the lights to dim. Our excited Twistas had prime seats in the Orchestra Center! The show was fantastic! The auditorium  was filled with hearty laughter and cheers! Watching our Twistas closely, we only ever saw captivated smiles and shared somber glances.Rhea Gulin, our Twista from Philippine Normal University share her experience and her insight on the show and the larger issues it brings about on her blog HERE.(Check out her other stuff too! Such refreshing insight from a young mind)

The Viva-Atlantis partnership is definitely one to look forward - Disney's TARZAN is up next and is on sale NOW!

After the performance, our lucky group got to take some photos with the shows main men, Mark  Bautista, Jamie Wilson, OJ Mariano, Marco Sison, Arnel Ignacio, Jamie Wilson and Niño Alejandro!

Our Twistas with the Main Cast of Viva Atlantis Theatricals' The Full Monty

The day didn't end there, right after our star studded photos we packed everyone into the TWI Mobiles and headed to Harbour Square across the CCP Complex for a quick dinner at Dencios and talk about TicketWorld's future projects with its Twistas! (you'll hear about this soon! - Let's just say we're getting Shirts. Ya'll know it's official when t-shirts are involved. Oh yah. Serious business. )

After filling oureselves with the delicious sisig and sinigang, it was off to Star Theater to watch "Carmen" Ballet Manila's Friendship Gala with the Choi So Bin Ballet Company of South Korea.

Quick class picture at the Star Theater front steps!:)
We happily sat ourselves in a full Star Theater. Looking around the venue, we were surprised to see that it was filled with an extremely wide range of ages and nationalities. The large Korean community in the Philippines did not miss out on supporting their countrymen in stage. We were even graced by the presence of some Korean Embassy delegates. Our Twistas fit right in with some fresh faces sitting behind us. It was the first time for several of our Twista's to watch a full ballet performance. That being said, we were surprised by their overwhelming responses during some of the wonderful moments in the performances.

For their insight, again, we will turn you to our lovely Twista Rhea Gulin to fill you in on her experience of a new world.:)
Just before the lights dimmed.

We ended our wonderful weekend with some happy "see-you-next-times",  "thank yous" and big plans for up coming events!
