Caritas Manila to stage “The King & I”

In line with its 59th Anniversary, Caritas Manila secured a full blocking of the Filipino produced Broadway Classic, “ The King and I” on October 12, 2012, 8 pm at the Resorts World Manila, Newport City , Pasay City.

“The reason for having this fundraising event is to gather our resources ahead of disaster, so we can prepare and help better” said Ms. Bernie Yap, Special Projects and Development Officer of Caritas Manila.

The King and I was based on the book Anna and the King of Siam by Margaret Landon, and told through the music of Richard Rodgers and the lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein II.

The story is about Anna Leonowens, a widowed school teacher who travels from England to serve as governess to King Mongkut’s many children. Anna’s task of opening the kingdom’s eyes to the modern world brings about disputes with the arrogant and headstrong King, who resists changing his traditional role as a benevolent patriarchal dictator.

Seasoned stage actress Monique Wilson plays Anna Leonowens while Broadway actor Leo Valdez takes on the crown of King Mongkut.

Ticket prices ranges from Php 1,000.00- 2, 400.00.
All proceeds from the evening show will fund Caritas Damayan, the relief assistance and emergency program of Caritas Manila.

The said fundraising show is one of the main activities of Caritas Manila’s 59th Anniversary celebration. “Living faith in our social mission”, is this year’s theme for the anniversary.
